Clarisse Project

Technology. It's a small word but has a lot of meaning. The dictionary says that is the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science. You may have observed in the past few years; some people started an addiction to technology. Always having their phone in their pocket or in front of your face, confronted to a virtual world. Since the past years, I was beginning to become one of them…robots. But while doing this project, I realize that I was more able to concentrate on seven things at the time rather than one, because i founded it boring. Clarisse in Fahrenheit 451 is not a robot, she has learnt to disconnect from virtual reality and live in the present. So, to experiment what it is to be a Clarisse, I self-confiscated my iPad, which is the main device I use for chatting and playing games. At the beginning I found it difficult. Not the cure itself but the fact that I was confronted with all my friend’s devices, and I was tempting to look at them. My friends were asking me: how can you live without technology? It’s the base of the new generation. If you would have asked me this question one year ago, I would have answered differently. Clarisse chose to live her life differently, I did the same. When you see all those people, their heads looking down on their phones, it makes me feel sad, because they could have a real conversation with you but instead, they go into their virtual and private world where everything is possible, but we don’t live in a virtual world, this is the present and we are the future. I don’t think I am awake, I think that I found a better way to see things inattentively. There're alternatives to every single move you decide to make, you have the choice to change your bad habits, that’s what I did, and I am not dead. I wish more people could discover what it feels to be alive, feel your body, use your senses, but our generation decided to not care about others and live in a selfish and virtual world. For my Clarisse project, I didn’t want you to read my text, I wanted you to change the way you think and act, because it might be too late for all the others who are addicted and have no real friend. We are the future. We are new generation. We are Clarisse.
