Hello, today we are at the National Museum of African American History and Culture in the capital of the United States, Washington. This museum opened in 2016 and promotes African American history and culture. The goal of the museum is to pay a tribute to all African American people.

At the opening of the museum, former president Barack Obama gave an inaugural speech. Obama’s message aims to gathering people, and whoever you are, wherever you from, whatever your origin is, you are all US citizens.

As you can see, this museum collects thousands of artifacts, however, not all of them are exposed in the museum because there are over 10 000 of them.                              To your left, you can see Chuck Berry’s red Cadillac who is an African American guitarist, singer and songwriter, he is one of the pioneers of rock n roll.

Now, we are going to the exhibition organized by the NASA about the heroes of the Space Race. This exhibition is mostly about three African American women who participated in launch of the first NASA astronaut into space. The three women are Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson and Dorothy Vaughan and they were engineer and mathematician in the NASA. Also, these women were what we called “human calculators”.                                                                                    As we all know, black people were very discriminated against until 1960. The Martin Luther King’s Civil Rights Movement ended racial segregation in the US. Katherine, Dorothy and Mary fought against the segregation because they were discriminated because of their skin color but also because they are women.                                                                                                                                                       These women should be remembered because they are a role model for the fight against the segregation but also for women’s rights. They inspire and will inspire future generations. Maybe you know the movie “Hidden Figures” which allowed these women to be recognized. Indeed, the story of Katherine, Mary, Dorothy was not known before this movie.
