Firstly, i’m going to present you the American dream. For me, the American dream is a hope for everyone. I think everyone can succeed in USA as long as you work a lot, no matter where you come from. And to succeed you aslo need persevrance and to be determined.

So, i’m going to introduce you the person who represents success for me ; it’s Alexander McQueen a british fashion designer. It was one of the greatest hopes of fashion during his career. He is born in 1969 in London in a modest family. He starts working as a tailor from the age of 16 then he integrates a school of art and design. In 1992, his talent was noticed by Isabella Blow editor of the English Vogue, and his first collection will appear in the famous magazine. In 1996 he goes back to Givenchy where he stands out for his controversial style. The same year he was the youngest creator to receive the British Creator of the year Award, and he received it three more times. During his years at Givenchy, he is also noted by his controversial statements, criticizing her compatriots John Galliano or Vivienne Westwood, and presenting the respected Hubert de Givenchy as a «minor» fashion designer. In 2001 he launches his own label, he is called the « terrible child » because his collection are punctuated by scandals. It is under his own label that Alexander McQueen will stand out and find the freedom of creation and expression that he has always expected at the opposite of his creations at Givenchy. Each of his collections has a very specific theme, like a tribute to Alfred Hitchcock’s film The Man Who Knows Too Much and Kim Novak. He also stands out by the staging of his parades where the models can evolve alternately like on a dance floor or to the way of pawns of chess games. He was elected Best Designer International in 2003 by the Council of Fashion Designers of America. In 2004, he launched in the ready-to-wear male and received the title of British Menswear Designer of the Year. In 2005, Alexander McQueen designed a collection of sneakers for Puma, and in 2007, a line of luxury luggage. His most incredible fashion show is « The Horn of Plenty », it’s also his most successful show because he shows at fashion what she has become ; a caricature of outrageous femininity, cut from reality. His last three collections form a terrible dramatic arc ; breathtaking fashion shows. The first reduces his carrer and criticizes fashion, the second, prophetic, reflects on the future of fashion and even of humanity and the last a few days before his suicide, is a morbid abandonment. Three parades as an implacable countdown. And he kill himself in 2010.

I chose Alexander McQueen because it’s my favorite designer and he revolutionized the world of fashion. The staging of his parades looked like theatrical events. For me he was more than just a designer, he was an artist.  And for me he can represent sucess because in spite of a difficult childhood he managed to become a designer.
