Introduction

Welcome to FRE 304: African Literature Written in French.

This course is a one semester, three unit course. It introduces you to the

major literary trends in African literature written in French.

This Course Guide tells you briefly what the course is all about, the

definition of literature and African literature in French, and the nature

and specificity of African literature written in French. The Course Guide

will also expose you to some major literary trends of African literature

written in French.

Course Aims

The aims of this course are:

1. To introduce you to literature and African literature in French

2. To identify various types of definitions of literature.

3. To identify genres of literature as well as forms of literature.

Course Objectives

On successful completion of the course, you should be able to:

· Define literature and African literature written in French

· Identify the genres of literature.

· State the forms of literature

· Identify factors that determine literature.

· Identify literary trends of African literature written in French.
