Power

I'm going to talk about the notion of power. First i'd like to suggest a definition of power : to me, it refers to the ability that somebody has to influence what people do or the way something happens ; it also means strenght in a particular activity, an authority, such as political ascendancy, such as a country's dominance assured by its technological or military weight for example.

We will ask who holds the power in democracy?

We will see at first what power have immigrants in the usa and what role the university plays in the usa in relation to power.

In fact, according to the cover of a magazine called "Time" showing us the new american face. It is a face made by computer, it is a curious combination of Asian, African, middle eastern and anglo saxon traits (WASP).

I saw that the face looked more like a Latino so I conclude that there will have more percentage of Latinos in the usa. Over a line chart which estimates of the legal permanent resident population in 2010 confirms this because it shows that the main immigrants in the U.S.A are Asians and Latinos.

This line chart also shows a reversal of the trend since 1909 at 2010 because before the main immigrants came from Europe. While nows are Latinos. And thanks to a pie chart I see that these latinos come mostly from mexico.

So, we can talk about political power, influence and language because these Latinos speak Spanish so Spanish will be one of main language in the USA.

We can also talk about control, with laws, quotas system, which allows immigrants came to the territory :

Latinos to work and Asian come for study (brain-drain).

We can talk about these same forms of power through universities. Because those who are able to pay the tuition fees which are very expensive are the rich. Those are the elites. They then possessed the knowledge and culture. They will therefore be very highly placed people in the society. As senators, major politicians and leading journalists. And I think they have a lot of influence and control over people. Because they are the ones we see on TV or in newspapers and they're going to share their ideas and views. So somehow way they will influence us and controlling us.

To conclude, in the usa, immigrants hold influence and power of language. I strongly believe that the next president in a few years could be a Latino. But those who hold the most power are the elites thanks to the universities that are more accessible to them, they will gain power over other people.
