Let me introduce the notion places and forms of power. A place can be a country or a state –  for example the USA is a state which is powerful enough to influence events throughout the world (superpower) and China is a major economic power in today’s world, (pour résumer) it’s North is place of power. In politics, power is the ability to influence the behavior of people. In order to live together members of a community accept rules, regulations, laws. This helps to create social cohesion but can also lead to conflicts and tensions. The first document is a caricature and the second is the presentation of “making globalization work” from Joseph Stiglitz. The problematique is : How globalization increase or reduce inequality all around the world.

The first document deals with the contrast between North and South. We can see two people. There is a white man, very fat and a little African very skinny. They are on a ball which represent world, its cut in two parts. The white man is taking a bath in the “south part of the ball”, he look very happy. And the black man is on the “north” and he is annoying, there is nothing on his part, he look very sad. With this caricature the cartoonist want to show the inequality between North and South. I think the white man who his taking a bath in the south part of the ball can be represent like the man who takes advantages of resources from South and he does not care what happens to others who lived on these lands, the bath he is taking represent maybe the resources he waste like water. While the black man is not far from death because the North doesn’t let him resources to live, his place is desert and he doesn’t have water.

Inequality come from the contrast between north and south, Northern is place of power in the world to the detriment of South. But it’s not the only reasons , In today’s society place of power are in the noth but the form of power which is globalization take part to this inequality too.

The Second document I choose is the cover of a book. It was write by Joseph Stiglitz. Joseph Stiglitz is an American economist, he write this book to make a review of globalization. He show the positive and negativs points. Globalization is the way that local or national ways of doing things become global, that is, done together around the world. It is about economics or trade, technology, politics, and culture. People feel differently about globalization: some think it helps everyone while others think it hurts some people. Here Joseph has a negative outlook on globalisation. It’s more than that , if globalization make the world connected, Economic crises or downturn in one country/continent can crow borders and affect the economic of other countries. But with all of that Joseph Stiglitz says that it emphazises and increases inequalities. So maybe the gabe we talked in the first document is bigger because of Globalization.

As we saw, the addition of power centralized in north + globalization who favorised rich country (a pour consequence d’amplifier ) the inequalities.
