Hi guys, I'm going to introduce you to the life of Josephine Baker.

Josephine Baker is a symbol of the struggle for women's rights.

She was born in 1906 in a very poor African-American and Native American family.

She began working at a very young age to help her family.

But very quickly, she is hired as a dresser in a musical comedy at Broadway

Then, thanks to this job, she will be able to leave the United States to go to France. She was only 19 years old at the time.

When she arrived in France, she became a singer and dancer, her popularity rose and she made a European tour with a musical show called Negro revue at the music hall.

Then, she became the star of the shepherd follies.

Her success disturbs a lot the racists and the Catholics but she doesn’t destabilize herself and becomes a real symbol of struggle.

During the Second World War, she enters in resistance and hides messages engaged in these songs. So, she’s an asset for the resistance because she travels a lot to do her shows.

She commits herself to the red cross and adopts 12 children all of different nationalities and will call her children her rainbow tribe to show a fraternal link between all the countries.

After the war, she returned to the United States a lot to fight segregation and she marched for civil rights alongside Martin Luther King. Finally, Martin Luther King will be at her side during his speech where he says I have a dream.
