Christ of the Deep, Key Largo, Florida

I will present you a sculpture placed in the waters of America

This a sculpture called Christ of deep. This is the third copy of the sculpture Christ of the Abyss that is installed in Italy. It was created in 1962 and on august 1965 it was placed at 25 foot (7.6 meters) deep in the water of Key Largo. The statue is located in the world’s first marine park, the state park of John Pennekamp Coral Reef. The sculptor's name is not known

It was made in the original mould of the sculpture Christ of the Abyss. The statue weighs 573 pounds (260 kg) and the concrete base to which it is attached weighs 20 160 pounds (9 tonnes).

To admire this work you have to dive. And it is a very beautiful spot to dive. The statue is in a magical place with a magnificent maritime landscape. There are many fish all around.

Until 2000, the statue received the best care, the best treatment. But unfortunately, the maintenance is more and more neglected and it is covered with seaweeds and corals.

It is a submarine tribute. She represents Christ with open arms as a sign of redemption and head raised towards the surface of the water towards the sky.

It is the symbol and the monument dedicated to all victims at sea. The sculpture also symbolizes peace of mankind. Some people come to collect it in tribute.
