Topics:
Depression, lost some part of him
and it's very very sad, which is unique for a rapper who's a little bit more well-known for how angry, intense, and energetic he can get; but “Paralyzed” has a deeper meaning, it's really powerful. That’s why I love him.
It can be compared to poetry. Because the music is soft. The lyrics are beautiful and he uses sustained language.
Poetry or not poetry that’s the question.
Firstly I think rap isn’t poetry because the words and the way they are pronounced are violent, unlike poetry.. They often speak in prose and quickly. The music doesn't go with it and the rhythm and harmony aren't present. Moreover this isn't the same art. Poetry tells stories with sustained words, rhymes and the lyrics are structured. And poetry isn’t said with violence. Poetry is deep. Moreover, they often use the same topics.
But secondly I think some song are like poetry. For example “paralyzed”. Topics are seriously and important but it said with beauty.
So I believe rap isn’t poetry but there are exceptions.
