Most People I know keep on telling me that they've always known what they wanted to do in their lives, that they love what they're doing and that they wouldn't have asked for anything more than what they have now. I know they lie.

I'm surrounded by hundreds of seniors going crazy, we all have no idea where will we be next year, sending applications and wishing for the best. I know for sure that they we don’t have it figured out. At least I didn't until a couple of weeks ago.

As a student I enjoy learning, I enjoy every single subject I take from history and humanities to physics chemistry math and biology. This might seem awesome for the observer, but it actually made my life a lot harder. This joy I have for acquiring knowledge has brought upon me a terrible headache for I want to continue learning about everything in this world has to offer and the thought of focusing on a certain domain frightens me. I want to learn all there is.

A couple of weeks ago I went to the "engineering leaders conference" sponsored by Texas A&M Qatar. Of course before going I was very keen on chemical engineering, and this conference only added to that. Dr. Mark Holtzapple the lecturer at the "what do engineers do?" workshop said:" Many people tell you that engineers are problem solvers, they're not just that! They take the money from businessmen and the ideas from scientists to create something spectacular." Having a father who's an engineer I know that is true, and having a mother who is a chemist I know that all the theoretical work that goes into chemistry wouldn’t have any value if it weren’t for engineers.

Dr. Mark then added on the subject of chemical engineering:" Chemical engineering for me is the best of all engineering majors." He's a chemical engineer after all. "They take raw materials, materials no one would deem useful and transform them into usable materials. Isn't that magic! "There and then a little voice in my head screamed "what more can you wish for?" and since then all doubt was gone, I knew for sure that I wanted to be a chemical engineer.

Richard E. Smalley said after receiving a noble prize that all human problems can be solved by finding a clean, renewable and abundant form of energy. And I firmly second that. As a person I am very interested in research, and how humans can actually save the earth they've been brutally murdering for the last 100 years. The thought of manipulating the earth to create a renewable source of energy amuses me. My dream has always been to leave a legacy behind, and what a better way is there than saving mother earth!

Most students tell you all about how great people they are and how they have amazing qualities. I won't , I wish that by September you will judge what kind of person I am after accepting me at Texas A &M Qatar because that is where I want to be , and that is where I believe I can get the best training on how to be a chemical engineer and follow my dream .
