The White House was built in Washington DC, which took 8 years, from 1792 to 1800. It was Georges Washington who decided to build it. Since its construction, the White House was used like a house and a place of work for all American presidents and it had multiple extensions and renovations. John Adams was the first president to move into the house.

The building is divided of 3 parts:

the Executive Residence,

the West wing with the first lady’s administration and the bunker and

the Ouest wing with the Executive Office Building and the Oval Office.

In all, there are 132 rooms like bathrooms, offices, reception rooms, library, cinema and many leisure species. But also, in the garden, there are a tennis court, a basketball court, a bowling and a golf green or even a swimming pool.

At the beginning of history, the White House has been known like the “President’s Palace” or the “President’s House”. But, in 1814, a large part of Washington was ravaged by a fire, and the White House was damaged. In order to hide damages (dans le but de cacher les dégats), they painted the walls in white. Then, it is Theodore Roosevelt who gave its current name in 1901.

You can visit the White House since 1805. But, with bombing of 11th November of 2001, if you want to visit it, you have to go to the Canadian consulate in Washington because, every person is being investigated before they go over there, you must be very lucky to be accepted.

This year, the White House will welcome the 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump. He was succeed to the only black president, Barack Obama.
