Forms of courtesy (mail) – course

How to write a formal letter and what formulas to use? It's often a puzzle!
Here are the formulas you need to use to help you.

  • Letter addressed to a head of state or a minister - a representative of the State - a judicial personality:
    Start: Mr. (+ title)
    Form of courtesy: Accept, Sir, the expression of my highest consideration.
  • Letter addressed to the high religious authorities:

    Pope
    Start: Most Holy Father
    Form of courtesy: I have the honor to be with the deepest respect of Your Holiness, the most humble and devoted servant.

    Cardinal
    Start: Eminence
    Form of courtesy: Deign, Your Eminence, to accept the expression of my deepest respect.

    Archbishop - Bishop
    Start: Monseigneur
    Form of courtesy: Deign, Your Excellency, to accept the expression of my most respectful consideration.

    Religious people
    Start: My father - My sister - Monsieur le cure - Monsieur l'abbé

    Form of courtesy: Please accept, (title), the expression of my respectful remembrance.
     
  • Letter addressed to the military:
    * My = abbreviation of "sir"
    Women will just use the term "Colonel" (without "my").
    General
    Start:
    My general (if a man will read it)
    General (if it is a woman who will read)
    Form of courtesy: Please accept, (Mon *) General, the expression of my highest consideration.
    Other grades
    Start: (Mon *) + grade
    Form of courtesy: Please accept, (My * + grade), the expression of my highest consideration.
  • Letter addressed to someone practicing a liberal profession:
    Doctor
    Start: Doctor
    Form of courtesy: Please accept, + (title), the expression of my highest consideration.
    Lawyer
    Start: Master
    Form of courtesy: Please accept, + (title), the expression of my highest consideration.
  • Letter addressed to someone practicing in the faculty:
    Start:
    Headmaster = Headmaster - Headmaster
    Director = Director - Madam Director
    Principal = Mr. Principal - Madam Principal

    Professor = Sir - Madam
    Form of courtesy: Please accept, (+ title) the expression of my highest consideration.
  • Letter addressed to someone belonging to the nobility:
    Start:
    Prince (sse) = Prince - Princess
    Duc (hesse) = Monsieur le Duc - The Duchess
    Marquis (e) = My dear Marquis - My dear Marquise
    Count (sse) = My dear Comte - My dear Countess
    Baron (ne) = dear M
