The Bayeux Tapestry is an embroidered cloth nearly 70m long and 50cm tall, which depicts the events leading up to the Norman conquest of England in 1966 concerning William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy. It is thought to date to the 11th century, within a few years after the battle.

Magna Carta is a charter of rights, agreed to by King John in 1215, first drafted to make peace between the unpopular king and a group of rebel barons, which limited the power of the monarch and guaranteed a fair trial. The final version issued in 1225 by Henry III and it has been an inspiration for the US Bill of Rights (1791), the U.D.H.R (1948) and for the European Convention on Humans Rights (1950).

Queen Elizabeth I was the daughter of King Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn. Henry had defied the papacy and the Holy Roman Emperor to marry Anne.

Elizabeth I was Queen of England and Ireland from 17 November 1558 until her death on 24 March 1603. As she grew older, Elizabeth became celebrated for her virginity (that’s why she’s called the Virgin Queen). Elizabeth's reign became known as the Elizabethan era because historians ofen depict it as the golden age in English history.

Henry VIII and Elizabeth I broke with the Roman Catholic Church and had Parliament declare Henry VIII supreme head of the Church of England, starting the English Reformation, because the pope would not annul his marriage to Catherine of Aragon.

Queen Victoria was the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland.

Queen Victoria had nine children’s.

In 1876, she adopted the additional title of Empress of India.

Known as the Victorian era, due to social and technological progress, her reign of 63 years and seven months is the Britain’s second longest reigning monarch behind Queen Elizabeth II.

She became iconic because it was a period of industrial, cultural, political, scientific, and military change within the United Kingdom, and was marked by a great expansion of the British Empire.

The State Opening of Parliament is an elaborate ceremony which formally marks the beginning of a session of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It takes place in the House of Lords chamber in front of both Houses of Parliament. The monarch, wearing the Imperial State Crown reads a speech that has been prepared by his or her government outlining its plans for that parliamentary year.

The Parliament is the supreme legislative body of the United Kingdom. It is bicameral and it has two parts consisting of the House of Lords and the House of Commons. The two houses meet in the Palace of Westminster.

The House of Lords is the upper house of the Parliament. Unlike the elected House of Commons, members of the House of Lords (excluding 90 hereditary peers) are appointed. The House of Lords scrutinizes bills that have been approved by the House of Commons.

The Royal Courts of Justice, commonly called the Law Courts, is a court building in London which houses the High Court and Court of Appeal of England and Wales. It is one of the largest court in Europe.

Britain joined the common market in 1973. Boris Johnson wants a hard Brexit and one of his main goals is to make sure that Brexit happens by the end of October. This means that the UK could leave without a deal in place about what its relationship will be like with the EU in future.

Ireland is divided into Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland. Because of Brexit, boundaries of Ireland and the money used are main issues.

Nicola Sturgeon has led the SNP for less than three years, but is already leading them into a fourth election. She’s the Prime Minister of Scotland.

She says Johnson has set an « inevitable path to a no-deal Brexit ». She stands for a referendum and she wants to persuade people that choosing a future as an independent European country rather than having the damage of Brexit imposed is the right way forward.

On the 24th May 2019, Theresa May has said she will quit as Conservative leader on 7 June. She said she had done her best to deliver Brexit and it was a matter of "deep regret" that she had been unable to do so.

Mrs May had been struggling to get parliamentary support for the legislation needed to implement the deal she had agreed with the EU on how the UK would leave the bloc.

Her deal was rejected three times by Parliament. Efforts to find a compromise with the opposition Labour Party also failed.

Mrs May said she would continue to serve as PM while a Conservative leadership contest took place.

Boris Johnson, considered as the favorite to succeed Theresa May, warned Saturday that if he became Prime Minister, he would refuse that the United Kingdom pays the Brexit bill until the European Union agrees to better terms for withdrawal.
