Introduction:

  • To begin with, i would like to give a definition of the notion. A myth is a popular belief on witch social values are often based. All cultures have myths, Mythology includes the legends of our history, our religions, and our heroes.
On the other hand, a hero can be someone who is ready to sacrifice his whole life in order to make things evolve positively. A hero is a person who is admired for his or her courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities and is a role model who people look up to.
In relation to the notion, the subject of my presentation will be the struggle of oppressed people such as women and African Americans and how regular people fought for their cause.
How can an ordinary person make the world a better place ?
  • To begin with, i would like to give a definition of the notion. Power is the ability to exert authority and influence over others, it can be exerted in différents spheres : economics, politics or media. In relation to this notion i chose to talk about the power of oppressed people and their ability to resist and stand for their rights. How can a people change the world thanks to their power?
  • To begin with i’d like to give a definition of this notion. Progress is a steady evolution towards a better state in therms of sciences, technology, modernization, living condition... Progress crosses and knocks down the traditions. However, the idea of progress is still debate between those who consider that it’s beneficial and those for whom it’s harmful. This notion allows us to approach the idea of equalities and evolution of mentalities, to illustrate this notion i chose to speak about women’s rights and black community in the USA. How can people make the mentalities change and the world progress?

To start with, i would like to talk to you about a movie trailer that we saw in class about the suffragettes in the UK. To understand what it is really about let’s contextualize this movie, In the 19th century, it was commonly agreed that women were inferior to men and thus unable to take important decisions. By the end of the century, in the United Kingdom, a movement, led by Emmeline Pankhurst was funded in reaction to this popular belief : the Suffragettes were women who wanted to fight for their rights : their goal was that women would be given a better education and would be granted the right to vote. They tried to take peaceful actions but it didn’t work, no one listened to them.

The trailer shows us in the first place their pacifist side by showing us Emmeline Pankhurst giving speeches, telling women to take their destiny into their own hands but then emphasizes their violent side.

In total opposition to this way of protesting, I am now going talk about another very famous hero, Martin Luther King who is well known because of his pacifist actions in order to establish equality between the Black and white communities.

In class, we studied his famous « I have a dream speech » in witch he emphasizes that physical violence is not the right thing to do and that the black community should not hate whites because of their skin color.
