Definitions:

I will talk about the notion of myths and heroes in sport. But first, let's define what exactly this notion means.
A myth is a story that can be true or false. These stories have great symbolic power, and this is perhaps one of the main reasons why they survive as long as they do, sometimes for thousands of years.
A hero is a person admired for his courage, exceptional achievements or noble qualities. He can also be a modern-day hero, a person who has done a heroic act or simply a person we admire.
In sport, being a hero goes beyond physical achievements.

True heroes are those who are heroic far from their respective sports, those who sacrifice their time, money, and sometimes even their personal well-being for the good of others, those who are truly worthy of our admiration.
