MYTHS AND HEROES

INTRO                Today, I Will try to answer the question “Are sports heroes true heroes?”. For me a hero is someone who has great influence on people: he is an example of excellence and represents a goal. In the first part, I will talk about the physical sport hero, secondly a hero who denounces the problems of society and realizes good actions for people. Finaly, I will talk about a bad sportsman.

I        Firstly, as said before I will speak about the physical sport hero. I will refer to Usain Bolt. He is the fastest man in the world. This Jamaican sprinter broke many speed records and became a gold medal winner in the Beijing, the London and the Rio Olympic Games. Also, I can talk about Haile Gebreselassie who is a long-distance runner. He holds four world champion titles and beats a world record time and at the Berlin marathon, and the following year, he beats his own record.

II        Some, it is thanks to the victory that they can denounce problems of the society. As for example, Tommie Smith, the spokesperson for Afro-Americans, on the podium, In sign of protest against racial prejudice and discrimination, lower the head and raises the fist. Thanks to their fame and thanks to their won money some sportsmen help people. Haile G. has decided to invest the money to fight against AIDS and has worked closely with UNICEF. Usain Bolt created her association; The Usain Bolt Foundation is dedicated to the legacy for happy children.

III        However, bad sportsmen exist, like an American cycling champion, Lance Armstrong. He cheated. He won the Tour de France seven times. He took performance-enhancing drugs and he forced athletes in his team to takes drugs. The truth was revealed and Armstrong’s medals were confiscated. Well Oscar Pisrtorius from South Africa is the first athlete running with artificial legs in regular competitions like the Olympic Games. He won several golden medals. But he killed his wife and he will be condemned for that.

CONCLUSION        Some sportsmen work hard to succeed and thanks to their success help the people but others so want to make a success so much that they cheat. For my opinion, all sports heroes are not necessarily heroes in the private life. Always in my vision of things we have heroes in our world:  like firemen, policemen, parents or even anonymous are considered as heroes by many people. They risk their lives for other people to save them.
