Once upon a time, in a world of doom, dependent and independent clauses lived in chaos forced to make sentences together. They could not survive without one another but despised each other, and they could not support this any longer.

One day, an independent clause, the most famous scientist in the world, created the comma. He could not stay another second close to his neighbor, a dependent clause from the lower class. This creation would separate an independent clause and a dependent clause, preventing his neighbor from bothering him too much. When the Great Scientist (as people called him) arrived at the Librairie of Laws, a place occupied by old clauses who decided of the new laws in the Old Grammatical Book Of Life, the old clauses asked him why this mark should be used. The poor scientist did not know what to answer; he tried to provide examples but could not, because giving examples was not grammatically correct, and another idea came to his mind. He thought about creating a new mark that would be used before giving examples, and he would call it the colon. The old clauses accepted almost immediately when he came back to show his new invention.

As time passed, the new marks started to find jobs more easily and sentences began to be more complete; though something was still missing.

Two years after the creation of the comma and the colon, an independent clause from the upper class started to have troubles living with his wife. His wife and he were independent clauses, so he was not allowed to put a comma between them. The clause contacted the Great Scientist, crying for help, and the scientist created a new mark: the semicolon. This was his greatest invention; everyone would like and use it. The client was thrilled and adopted the mark as soon as he was home.

The commas and the colons were not pleased with this new mark; they wanted to declare war on them because they believed the semicolons stole all of their fame. On the day of the first fight, right before the battle started, the periods stopped the conflict and ended it all.
