The notion I'm going to deal with is Seats and Forms of power.

To introduce this notion I'm gonna give you several definitions.

The notion of power generally implies a basic division between those who have and exercise power and those who have none or little of it. Power is the ability to control others, events or resource. Places can also be a country or a state. There are five sort of power: executive, legislative, judicial power or the power of the media or the power of Internet.

I will present this notion by trying to see if all citizens are on an equal footing today, because nowadays the citizens have the ability to exercise the authority of others.

To begin with, I am going to talk about the new technologies that have changed a lot of things and the way we live today. Then, I'm going to show how the technologies have given power to the citizens, but in the meantime we will see how these citizens can lose control because of them.

Many technologies have been created through the years. In theses technologies, we can take a look on the inventions of Steve Jobs who invented devices that changed the way we live. Steve Jobs wanted to have time for the design because, according to him, design was essential in the « technology world ». Toy Story made him a very rich man. In 1997, he returned to Apple and invented the iMac, the iPod or the iPad.

Apart from that, other tools are easily available to citizens like Google. However, Google has been in a sort of conflict, accused of unfair business practices. Google was considered as a plateform which took too much place in the industry, accused of being too powerful ..but Google's chairman has claimed that they haven't received any complaints.

Then, Wikileaks finds its place as another tool that citizens use. Wikileaks is an international online. Its creator (Julian Assange) has published and made available to the public a huge number of classified uncensored and highly sensitive documents from various anonymous sources. So this is a form of counter power because wikileaks attacks established authorities. Internet has massively developed the disinformation.

We will now see how new technologies have empowered citizens.

I'm going to show how people were allowed susprass by new technologies. We can see how people can organize thanks to technology. This is the case of the flashmob that represents mobilization of individuals, the gathering of a group of people in a public place to perform actions agreed upon in advance, before dispersing. The gathering is usally organized through the Internet.

As wee saw with Wikileaks, exist counter power, Greenpeace is a non-governmental and non-profit organization which was created in the late 60's. The aim of this organization is to warm people about environmental issues such as deforestation.

We are the 99% is a political slogan, which emerged from the Occupy Wall Street movement. This slogan seems to be a reference to economic and democratic inequalities between elites and the rest of the citizens of the United States. In fact the have nots want to protest against the wealthiest part of the population.

For all of that, we can say that counter-powers have  a growing influence in the world. The develoment of internet is helping counter-powers, because, thanks to internet, we can organize an event and share this with all people in the world without difficulties.
