The Notion :

I'm going to talk about the notion of traveling.

Definition :

Traveling is the best way of having new experiences.

The principe of an initiatory journey is to break with the daily and habits. It encourages self-discovery, an awakening, a better understanding of ourself.

I would like to illustrate this theme with the notion of travel and discovery to be and another culture

Issue question :

The issue I will develop is to what extent traveling enables personal self-discovery ?

My developement contains three parts

Sean Penn : Into the wild 1996

Sherman alexie : The absolutely true diary of a part-time Indian (chapter 18) 2007

A personal document : picture of the movie < into the wild > by Sean Penn in 2007

My presentation will fall into two parts the similarities at the three documents and the differences

Similarity :

The three documents are all the centuries twentieths.

there similarity with the into the wild and the book of Sherman alexie The absolutely true diary of a part-time Indian, is an autobiography and there travels happens in the car, in the three documents the man characters are all young men and students.

Christopher McCandless and Junior are both young men American.

And the three main characters begins a journey, through which he will encounter a new culture of new people and even discover them.

Christopher McCandless in into the wild and Junior in The absolutely true diary of a part-time Indian all are brilliants students.

Junior in The absolutely true diary of a part-time Indian and Christopher McCandless in into the wild are both the rebels, Junior left the reserve ,away from home and his family to went a " white " school and Christopher McCandless is a rebels because he left alone and he wanted to escape the consumer society and flee from is family.

Differences :

The differences are into the wild by Sean Penn and The absolutely true diary of a part-time Indian by Sherman Alexie are true stories and Junior go away are school while Christopher leaves school. Christopher McCandless are wealth while Junior is poor.

Junior fights against white and to create a place in society while Christopher was eager to leave his place.

Christopher in the three stories is the only one to die at the end because of a bad mushroom

And the literary genre of this two story is different the absolutely true diary of a part time Indian is a novel which belongs to the autobiography genre contrary to Into the wild which is not a novel
