IDEA OF PROGRESS

Introduction :

I’m going to talk about the notion of progress.

We can define the notion of progress as an improvement or a development technical, scientific or social advance which contributes to making the world a better place.

To illustrate my notion, I’m going to speak about the place of women in the society.

We will think about the women condition from 1900’s to day and how they could sometime influence their emancipation ?

To answer this question, first I will present what the texts show us about women's freedom at the end of the WW2. Then I will connect them to votes for women to showing how the characters emancipated themselves or not.

- let’s move on to my first part -

I- What the text show us about women’s freedom at the end of WW2.

First, women were not free in England at the commencement of the 1900’s and they wanted get more rights step by step. As we saw in class, they were under the authority of men. For exemple, if a woman wanted to join the air force and become WAPs, had to pay for flying lessons before she could train with someone from the army while the army paid the flying lessons to the men. So we understand that before the WW2 women had no right in England.

Then, we saw that the English state set up in the 1940's a story to incite young women to engage in the army. We studied a picture in class, there are 4 young women who wear pilot clothes.

So, we can see an advancement in England because women can now engage in the army.

But what about women right to vote in England at the end of WW2 ?

- let’s move on to my second part -

II- Votes for women to showing how the characters emancipated themselves or not.

Whereas, French’s women can vote in 1944, English’s women get right to vote in 1928. English women who vote are called "suffragette".

From 1928, and the right to vote for women, England has made great progress and women have emancipated themselves and are now much freer. They can now get work more easier, whereas before most time they could not work because it was men who worked and women stayed home to do chores and raise children.

As we saw class, women's right to vote has been a turning point in women's emancipation.

Since that day, we have seen great progress in the freedom of women in England.

- let’s move on to my conclusion -

Conclusion :

We have seen that the place of women in English society has evolved, they have emancipated themselves and so today they have a place almost equal to that of man in English society because there is still some progress to achieve.

I think this was necessary because women should not be inferior to men.

But has the position of women
