My sweet love,

I am very happy to send you this letter since Normandy.

I don't believe myself, I managed to survive in this abominable battle .

You have to read in the newspapers that we won even if it was very hard.

I had promised you to send a letter as soon as possible if I survived in this battle.

Stop cry my darling, i'm indeed alive .I am not hurt and everythings goes good for me.

I will tell everything like i promised :

We have lunch the assault at about 6h in  fired artillery shells since the boats.

We thought to have destroyed many troops and bunkers in the beach but it was a rude error.

The beach (Juno beach) was divided into three zones of attack : « love » on the west,  « Mike » on the center and « Nan » on the east.

I landed with the 7eme division and our mission was to control the sector « Mike ».

I thank my God for being placed in second line for the debarquement.

The first line of 7eme division  is completely made destroy by the German .

The germans have lot of machine gun and they were in height .

They have put down  barbed wires  which prevented an easy passage on the beach.

The second line landed and there i have discover The Hell : there was several hundred of body   on the sand , many limbs and the noise of bullets was deafening.

I have managed to move forward and hide behind a dune.

I saw many soldiers dying in quoting of me .After a heroic assault, we suceeded to take the bunkers and we slaughtered the German .We had fulfilled our mission and everybody were surprised to have survived .

The sector « Nan » and « Love » also was to control .The battle was finished… We won !

But we lost many brothers… Around 1000 soldiers died and 500 are hurt.

This battle was a true hell and i don't will be ableto forget this horror scenes.

I hope to come back soon in canada because I miss you tremendously.
