Choose correctly

I believe that our future depends on the choices we make today.

We have many choices to make in our lives. Some are very important, but others are not. The choices we make determine to a large extent how happy or unhappy we are because we have to bear the consequences each time. It is impossible to always choose perfectly. But it is possible to make good choices from which we can bear the consequences and which make us progress.

We sometimes make bad choices when we yield to group pressure. For example, when I was a young high school student, 90 percent of the students in my class smoked cigarettes. And to be part of the other 10 percent seemed to be frowned upon by the group, which never ceased harassing them with mockery or whatever. Unfortunately, some slipped and yielded to temptation.

However, certain important choices for happiness or fulfillment must be made only once, and once made, they must not be changed. For example, it is enough to make a firm and irrevocable decision not to smoke, not to drink alcohol and not to take drugs that alter the personality once. Nevertheless, some bad choices we make are irreversible; But many are not. We can change the course of our lives and get back on track.

Learning from experience is also worthless. The progression is faster and easier when we learn from our parents, families or people who love us. We can also learn from the mistakes of others by observing the consequences of their wrong choices. As was the case with my brother and sister. By sewing on bad people, my brother became a drug dealer. And my sister, after having had an affinity for feminine sex, ended up marrying a woman.

Some choices offer good opportunities, no matter which way we take. For example, when we decide our future job and the school we need to attend. I myself was a brilliant and very competent young man who wanted to become an English teacher; But I did not have that opportunity. So I chose the hotel business and I was very successful as a restaurant  manager, but I'm sure I would have done just as well in education.

There are sometimes delays. If we delay in making a decision, the opportunity is forever lost. Our doubts sometimes prevent us from making a choice that implies changes. It may be that we miss an opportunity.

It has been said that when one has a choice to make, not to choose is a choice in itself. So how can we choose correctly? A choice implies making an informed decision. To make an intelligent decision, we must carefully evaluate the pros and cons. That is why our future depends on the choices we make today.
