DIALOGUE ANGLAIS

Rencontre couple migrant avec AS de service social

Mme. Thomas : Hello, have a seat please

Mme. Dupont : Let me introduce myself and my colleague here. I’m Miss is Dupont, and this is Miss Thomas, we are social workers in the social service. We are here to help you and to listen to your journey and everything you want to share with us. We are bound by professional secrecy, so don’t worry, what you are telling us will not be shared with anyone, unless you ask for it.

Louise : Oh thank you, after everything we’ve been through, it’s good to be listened to. I feel like we can trust you.

Son mari : Yes, we have come far to get in this country. Indeed, we come from Mali, and there is war there, so my wife and I, escaped to survive.

Louise : We crossed many countries in bad living conditions to arrive here, in France. It’s been very hard for us, we have suffered violence during our migration journey.

Mme. Thomas : Did you take the boat to come in France ?

Son mari : Yes, we did. We crossed the Mediterranean Sea and it was very dangerous, we almost died in there.

Mme. Thomas : That must have been terrible for you. How long have you been in France?

Louise : We arrived two month ago.

Mme Thomas : And today what can we do to help you?

Louise : We need help to find a place to live, because we are staying with a friend, but it won’t last long.

Son mari : We also need help to get food, it is very difficult for us to eat everyday because we don’t have money.

Mme. Dupont : I see, we can help you with that. Here, we will fill this form together so you can go to the association les Resto du Coeur to get food package for the week. And you can have a hot meal every day down there and food package every week.

Mme DUPONT : We can also, in order to meet your needs, request a financial assistance of 500 euros. This aid is valid once a year and can be paid over a month or three months. What would be your preference?

LOUISE : We would prefer it over three months, so that we have enough time to find another home.

Mme THOMAS : All right, do you have a bank statement?

Son mari : Not yet, we will be doing this in the week.

Mme DUPONT : Okay, so if the aid is granted, I would contact you so that you could go and get your money.

Louise : Thank you very much

Mme. Thomas : And for accommodation, we will direct you to the service of the town hall to fill a request for a social accommodation with them. For now, try to negotiate with your friend so that you can stay longer in his house. If this is not possible, come back to us, so that we can contact 115 and allow you to find emergency accommodation.

Louise : Oh thank you so much for helping us.

Son mari : Yes, its very kind of you, thank you.

Mme. Dupont : It’s okay, it is our job to help you and find solutions together. I’m giving you these forms to sign, for the various aids so we talked to you. And we will contact you when we have an answer.
