Article commentaries n°4

The article that I choose for my fourth article commentary is an article from The HuffingtonPost, published on Sunday, October 15 2017 and written by Rachel McGrath.

This article deals with the recent case about Weinstein, in fact, Harvey Weinstein the famous film producer is accused of rape, sexual assault and attempted rape / sexual assault. The case began on October 5, 2017, when an article appeared in the New York Times accusing him of many sexual harassments. Since several testimonies were added by actresses like Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Léa Seydoux or Cara Delavigne.

In the article, Lysette Anthony the actress from Hollyoaks accused Weinstein for raping her in her own house in London. She reported the crime to the police this week.

Lysette Anthony is known for playing the role of Marnie Nightingale in the soap. During a new interview, Lysette told that she became friends with Harvey Weinstein when she met him in New York the 1980s She explained that their relationship was friendly, however she have an uncomfortable experience when she visited him at his house. She said that he was half undressed and that he tried to do things; things that she didn’t expect, so she fled. But Weinstein came to her flat, where he attacked her, he tried to kiss her and shove inside her.

I think it's necessary to talk about that kind of thing, we often think it's a taboo subject, but I do not think so. If I have decided to comment on this article, it is because recently I have read several articles on rape. Notably a French article with statistics that really shocked me ... Did you know that only 11% of the victims would have complained and that only 17% of the rapists are unknown, so that 83% of the rapists are part of the victim entourage, do you think this is normal?

The most horrible thing about all this is that often the victims are raped by their husbands. It's horrible to think that even if a woman says no, it does not stop her. A no, there is no consent, and even if sometimes a woman does not speak vocally, but physically yes, it is important to be aware of it.

To conclude, I think this is horrible what’s happening with all those actress and Weinstein, and I won’t say that this I’m sorry for those actress and also for Weinstein as Woody Allen said (which was very shocking). We all know that in this “world” I mean Hollywood, and even business music/top model, there are a lot of sexual harassments, but no one is doing anything to change that. I know that this case isn’t the only one, I wish it was the only one. Of course, women aren’t the only victims, we don’t have to forget that men are also victim of sexual harassments. Moreover, I won't forget also to talk about the rape culture. Rape culture is a sociological concept used to describe a setting in which rape is pervasive and normalized due to societal attitudes about gender and sexuality. I'm ok to normalized sexuality, but not rape. I really hope that mind will change, and that people will stop to say that the victims have they part of responsibility when rape happens.
