Parthenon’s frieze

Hello you watch on BBC world news

  1. Introduction, le vol : accusation Noémie

Now, here is an incredible story which begins at the top of the Acropolis in Athens, to finish in British Museum in London. Because it is over there, in the museum of London, that is exposed a big part of the Parthenon’s friezes and Greece wishes to return them in its country of origin. We are joined today by two special guests, Melia Kostas, a representative of Greece and and Kate Smith a representative of Great Britain.

Let’s get down to cases, Melia, could you explain your accusation?

………..

Okay, Kate, how do you respond to those accusations?

………..

2)  Le tourisme : Fanny

In Greece, the number of tourists in Athens in 2015 approached approximately 1.3 million. In the British Museum, the number of tourists in 2015 was about 6.8 millions!

A reaction, Kate?

…………

What can you say Melia ?

………..

3) Le patrimoine : Noémie

The Parthenon, birthplace of democracy, is the cultural and historic patrimony of Athens. But we can also speak about universal collection because the frieze tells the role of Greece in the story of the Humanity.

Well, what do you think of that Melia?

………..

What’s your idea Kate?

………..

4) renovation / erreur des ancêtres : ………………….

Great Britain took care of sculptures and renovated them.

Melia, for what do you blame them?

…………

What are your arguments, Kate?

………...

5) Conservation / transport: Fanny

For 25 years, the Greeks ask for their return. I quote: “Not as long as you will have no better museum to protect them”, answered the English state. Well, this museum, here it is.

Kate, will you respect your commitment?

…………

According to you Melia, is the transport impossible?

…………

Conclusion

To come to a conclusion, the problem seems very complex. But, I think I have the best solution: Great Britain is here, Greece is here, and France is here… you feel me? You can put the frieze in the Louvre until you found a solution, ok?

………..

Of course, I’m pulling your leg!

Thank you very much for taking part in this debate.

In a minute after the ad, the weather with Daisy!

Have a nice day and see you tomorrow!
