The TED Talk I chose is “The year I was homeless” by Becky Blanton and Becky Blanton is a writer and a journalist. And she says that in 22 yeras, she learned how to do a lot of things, and that 3 years ago, she learned how to become invisible. She became one of living homelesses. She quit her job as a newspaper editor after her father died. So she became homeless after her father’s death and she lived in very miserable conditions. She lived in a van. She also says that she felt out of control of her life. She lived in miserable conditions, in a van, in parking lots. She had to change her parking every night. She parked in a different place every night and she used public restrooms. It was a a very miserable life and she said that mentally, she hadn’t changed, her I.Q. hadn’t dropped. Her talent, her intelligence, her values hmm, everything about her remained the same. But she changed somehow and she pirowed deeper and deeper into a depression. So, after that, she went to a homeless clinic and she was very depressive. She almost comitted suicide because she was thinking that if she killed herself, no one would notice. So, after that, a friend of her told her that she had heard, her friend had heard about Tim Russert. And Tim Russert is a renowned journalist and this journalist had been talking about her on national TV and he published an essay she wrote, an essay that Becky Blanton wrote about her father before her father’s death and he was talking about her writing. So, after that, she was euhh, she was thinking about the fact that if, was she a writer or was she a homeless woman ? So, she went to a bookstore, no she went in a bookstore, she went in a bookstore and found Tim’s book so she reread her essay, the essay she wrote about her father and she cried. So, this thing changed her life because she mmm moved back to Tennessee and started writing again. By the summer of the following year, she was a working journalist, was wining awards ans she was living in her own appartment . So she was no longer homeless, no longer invisible. So her life changed until now, her life came back to the starting point until now. So, she, she says that she ‘s here to tell people based on her experience that people are not where they live. So she wants them to give people hope when, not people, to give homelesses hope when they meet them because hope can change everything in life so homelesses need and and she wants people to encourage them, to make them be confident and that’s all.
