SCHIZOPHRENIA STOLEN MIND, STOLEN LIVES:

Schizophrenia is an mental disorder resulting to an abnormal social behaviour. It affects 1% of the world wide population regardless of country, sex, or social class, but nobody knows why. The disorder of the fragmented mind, as affected great artist, scientist, mass murders, but also ordinary peoples like you and me. The symptoms start to occurs between the adolescence and the 30. I think that it's such a tragic disorder because it start the occurs during the most amazing years of someone's life. But the fact of being diagnosed with schizophrenia makes everything harder.

The video present us some fact about schizophrenia, but the team of this program has met peoples affected with schizophrenia like John Nash, but also scientist studying schizophrenia and the human brain.

During the video get to know the story of Steve and Shaun, that are identical twins. This part was for me very emotional, because it remind me of my brother and I, that fact that we are always here for each other. That's what our parents had been instilled us since our childhood, family first. My father always told us that the most important thing that we have in life is a brother. And that what was the relationship of Steve and Shaun was about, being there in any case scenario, the fact is that his brother is one of the things that doesn't makes him go in a constant psychotic stage.

I've also found that part interesting because the fact that they are identical twins, it means same that they have DNA. But Shaun is schizophrenic and Steve isn't, why ? It shows that schizophrenia isn't only about the DNA or the brain chemistry, but also about he environment. In fact Shaun was born 2o minutes after his brother but he had many complication, this could be I guess one of the causes of his disorder.

Something during the video has called me out, the fact that either Steve (the first schizophrenic person in the video, that used to be in Princeton) or Shaun, did drugs during their teens years, we know that Steve was taking LSD with his friends, and that Shaun took drugs when he was in a rock band. Did it had an effect on the development of their schizophrenia ? I'm pretty sure that it did, because as I heard LSD and synthesis drugs gives hallucination, and what peoples with schizophrenia have to face during psychosis ? Also hallucination.

I was shock to learn how we used to deal with brain disorder, the all thing about electroshocks and lobotomy gave me gosseflesh.

The video was a real contrast after the NOVA program about the brain, because one present the complex and great organ that is our brain, and the other one shows the fact that the brain can be a real threat to any human being. But in the case of schizophrenia I'm very hopeful because, neuroscience is new, it was not that long since have use magnetic imageries. Even psychology is a new sciences, I deeply hope that one day we'll be able to find a cure to every brain disorder.
