For my bts diploma I had to do an internship inside a small business where I had some compulsory activities to do and build a file. The internship last 2weeks where I needed to learn more about the chosen company then 8 weeks of proper internship.

The company the I chose is call Calco sales ltd. A small business situated at Paille, Mauritius. Their main activity consists of commercialise industrial, semi-industrial, and domestic machines. Calco sales ltd is 27years old and got a very good knowledge and experience that nowadays facilitates the business running and sustainability. They sell products such as high-pressure cleaner, generator, solar panel membrane and compressor.

The Calco Sales team is composed of 13 employees.

The unit I worked in is specialised in:

  • Follow the client during the purchase
  • IT department where a web site was built
  • Stock management

The company suppliers are situated exceptionally overseas.  More specifically in Italia, china, America and Sweden.

The suppliers company are:

  • Bottarini: for compressor
  • Dimaco: for high pressure cleaner
  • Puyang: for generator

 Basically, as a trainee, I learned how to
- operate new machinery
- set up a new computer system/network
- implement new computer technologies
- develop new computer tools, etc.

▪ Of course, in the 1st week, I was given a tour of the facility to know my way around and understand the activities and strategies of the company. Thus, I was given an introduction to the work with the company.

 My internship mainly consisted in
- analysing data to update the client lists
- collecting information/data concerning non-payment invoices
- contact suppliers to keep the stock up to date

 

Mission 1:

A client called to get information concerning the after sales service. He bought an air dryer some years earlier. This machine does not work now.

I called him back this day to get the symptoms of the machine, trying to understand the problem. Unfortunately, it was too complicated.

I sent a technician to fetch the machine at the client’s place to bring it back to the garage to perform more analysis and diagnostics.

The technician built a report on the machine’s problem, this report is composed of a list of damaged pieces and the prices...

I used this report to make a quotation that I sent to the client by mail.

The client accepted the quotation a sent back a purchase order.

I then created an invoice and sent it to the client.

As the invoice is sent I also started the repairing procedure for the air dryer.

This mission obliged me to take a professional behaviour. I had to show the client the knowledge of the company. It was stressful because I could have done it wrong and consequences could have affect the company.

Mission 2

The general manager asks me to build a web site for the company. I used all the skill I have to make it.

It was not an easy mission.

I proceed by step:

  • First, I had to build the bones of the site. it consisted of listing all information to be added to the site and the way it will be presented.
  • Then the coding side stated. I used my knowledge in programming to build the web site. I used different informatics languages such as HTML, PHP, CSS.
  • When all the coding was done the site was ready to be used, but first we had to put it online. For this step I ask the company IT to do it because I had no more time, my internship ended.

Mission3:

The stock manager contacted because we needed new machines.

I consulted the general manager to know which machine we were going to ordered.

I then contacted a supplier in Italia to ask for prices of the machines.

He sent me a quotation which I presented to the general manager for verification. As soon I he gave me the green light I sent a purchase order to the supplier and he gave me back an invoice.
