Introduction

Currently in the process of the first year of HEG in Yverdon, I am required to do an analysis about a big company during my second semester. There were many themes that we could have chosen for the development of this project.

With my group, we have decided to choose “Google“ as an international company for which a lot of people work.

For my part, I have chosen to talk about “the brand” of Google. This company is growing up quickly. In only few years, it is become one of the most valuable brands in the world. Nowadays, the technology is ubiquitous and the information is going fast. I think that for a company, the most important thing is to make sure that its image looks very good for the customers. It is the reason for which I have chosen to study this part of Google. I wanted to understand how this company could make the good choice for its development and how it stays on the top of world’s most valuable brands.

Learning objectives

Through this work, I hope to improve my English writing skills so as to be more comfortable when I have to write texts. I really think that it is important for my future professional life. Actually, I want to be able to have a conversation with a costumer by email without any problem. With the oral presentation, I would like to be able to speak fluently, using a simple vocabulary and creating some well-constructed sentences.

Reading

Firstly, I am very interested in technology and economics. Actually, I have noticed that a lot of articles are written in English nowadays. It might be a big issue for people who do not speak English but it is hardly ever the case. Through this work, I would like to be able to get the main idea of an article for which I have some interests. The main point is to understand what I am reading when it is about a subject that I like. In addition, one of my aims is to improve my English reading skills in order to understand some articles in which I am interested. In fact, while I am reading the article, I would like to recognize and using words that are familiar to me.


Listening

From my point of view, it is complicated to understand a video when you watch it and listen to it for the first time. Generally, the people tend to speak faster than they usually do in their real life. It is probably due to the fact that they are stressed while they are recording the video and sometimes, some words can be slurred. One thing is sure: through this exercise, I have definitely trained my comprehension. In addition, I am convinced that I am going to be more efficient the next time I will have to understand the essence of a video. I also hope to have a fluent conversation with native speakers in the future. My wish is to be able to cope and easily exchange views and opinions with the citizens living in a foreign country.

Vocabulary

In the field of economy and trade, the vocabulary can be varied and a lot of technical terms exist. I am persuaded that it is crucial to be aware of new words and to try to memorize them in order to increase our knowledge. Talking to customers and sharing with them is an ability that I must have for my future career. That is why I really think that using English and improving my skills will be nothing else than beneficial to me.

Summary

Surprisingly, Google is become a more valuable brand than Apple. Even though Apple was a part of the best ones on the market for some years, nowadays, Google is considered as the world's most popular brand.

According to the results of 2014, Google's brand value has risen 40 % last year, to $159 billion, whereas Apple has slipped 20% to $148 billion. While Apple is having a lack of new ideas, Google is not afraid of innovating and trying new things, which is probably one of its strengths due to the fact that its search engine remains unrivaled.

Instead of looking for new breakthrough innovations, Apple keeps on focusing its attention to the improvements of the previous products that had been successful, such as the IPhone. Actually, Apple has clearly slowed down and it is seen as a big deception.

Millward Brown List, considered as being part of the best ones, tries to rank famous social networks like Twitter, LinkedIn, or Facebook. However, the way they proceed is based on private methods that are not completely revealed to the public.
