The progress is a development toward a better, more complete, or more modern condition.

The idea of pregress basically consists in beleiving that the worl can become better in terms of art, science, technology, liberty and quality of life and has shaped most of Western civilisation's vision of history. Progress implies changes, some evolution from an old order with old tradition to a new order which is not necessaraly embraced by all, as it mey shake up deep-rooted, highly respected conventions and beliefs The recent evolutions of family structures in the usa and more generally in Western societies are indeed at the hert of a heated debate beteween those who approve of these changes and those who resist and criticise them in the name of tradition.

When you are an only child, your parents may be more affectionate and considerate towards you because they have more time to take care of you but a child might appreciate to have several brothers and sisters to play with him. The family climate may be more relaxed when are many children, having siblings may ameliorate the relationships a child will have with the others in the future, that is why some people would advocate for large families.

From 1929 to the 1950’s, families used to be organized according to the following patterns:

several generations were living under the same roof or sharing accommodation with other

people.

family structures thanks to several measures initiated by the government: road construction

and housing development, social measures in favour of war veterans or mortgage subsidies resulted in a redefinition of the traditional family structure. Indeed, parents and children were living under the same roof and the role of wives and mothers was redefined toward a more educational and moral status.
