Cairo is the capital and the greatest city of Egypt which also have a rich and astonishing historical background.

During its existence, the city has always taken in huge amount of inhabitants. In fact, his unique position near the Nile in the Sahara allows the city a regular supply of fresh water. Today, it counts more than 15 millions of inhabitants. Due to his large population, Cairo knew how to take an important place in the History. That’s how, from Antiquity to now, it became the economic center of North Africa. From his starts, the city has always managed with dryness and drying up. So, the inhabitants had to know how to deal with it and build in desert. Who else could built the Pyramids of Giza in a such hostile place other than the Egyptians. Plus, the country encounters new problems in this era. The Egypt contests with his neighboring countries. This precious fresh water offered by the Nil is also shared with many peoples in differents countries. That’s why, Cairo, placed at the Nile delta, receive a water full of waste and polluted till it’s useless. Also, the fresh water is really badly managed so there’s a lot of loss.

In the case of Cairo 2121, here’s my vision of the things and what will come out to the city. Due to the global warming, the average temperature of the Earth won’t stop increasing. Despite the failed tries of the government to slow the impact, in a few years, the humankind will have to face the environmental problems. So, the desertification ,due to the Sahara around the city, will continue and become dangerous. The city’s density will increase until it reaches 50 Millions of inhabitants. The need of new habitat will be the first concern of the town. Also, the risks of natural disaster will seriously be dangerous for Cairo because it could be touched by sandstorms.

Plus, the Nile will become dryer and dryer despite the natural increasing need of the local population for fresh water. This river is indeed a real source of conflict between the Egypt and the Sudan. Those countries will go to war for the possession of the Nile.

It will become the greatest humanitarian crisis of all the Cairo’s and Egypt’s History. Tired and sick of the war, the Sudan’s and Egypt’s inhabitants will organized ,thanks to the social media, a great and commune revolution against their own government. After having overthrown their tyrant, they establish a political regime that is primarily concerned with the needs of its people. They will then create an alliance pact and share together the Nile by nationalizing the river to stop economic conflict. Inspired by the Great Green Wall in sub-Saharan Africa, Cairo is beginning to plant hundreds of thousands of trees on its periphery to enable healthy urban sprawl for its people. The desertification process will be reversed and many places will become habitable.
