My presentation focuses on the film the help. The Help is a 2011 American drama film adaptation of the novel of the same name (2009) by Kathryn Stockett, adapted for the screen and directed by Tate Taylor. On February 2012, the film received four Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Best Actress for Davis, Best Supporting Actress for Chastain, and a win for Best Supporting Actress for Spencer. The Help received mostly positive reviews from critics although racial segregation and the struggle for civil rights remain susceptible to the United States.

At first I will introduce the book's author and the main characters.

Kathryn Stockett was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi. After graduating from the University of Alabama with a degree in English and Creative Writing, she moved to New York City where she worked in magazine publishing and marketing for nine years. She currently lives in Atlanta with her family. The Help is her first novel.

Emma Stone as Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan, the protagonist, a college graduate and aspiring writer. Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan (Emma Stone) is a young white woman who has recently moved back home to her family's plantation after graduating from XX. Unlike her friends, who attended university to find husbands (and are now all married and having children), Skeeter is single, has a degree, and wants to begin a career as a writer. Her first job is as a "homemaker hints" columnist in the local paper

Viola Davis as Aibileen Clark, a black maid. When the movie starts, the child died a few years earlier. Aibileen did not return to work but ended up doing it out of necessity. She works for Leefolt Elizabeth (Ahna O'Reilly). .Skeeter (Emma Stone), who is a friend of Elizabeth, suggests him(her) writing a book on the situation of the black domestics in the service of the white women in the 1960s. Aibileen grants to help Skeeter at the risk of his(her) life. The experience will give him a taste for life.

Bryce Dallas Howard as Hilly Holbrook, the antagonist and the town's racist, snooty ringleader. Attractive Hilly Holbrook is a little the star(speedboat) among the young mothers of Jackson, Mississipi, and the embodiment of the charm and the hospitality the Confederate - in particular when she tries to treat(manipulate) somebody.Hilly Holbrook (Bryce Dallas Howard) is a plague that manipulates people, as well as his mother. It makes life pretty hellish home district. It has under its roof some Minnie Jackson

Octavia Spencer as Minny Jackson, a brilliant cook, but with a smart mouth that has gotten her fired a lot of times; she is Aibileen's best friend.
