John William Waterhouse was born in 1849 in Rome, it’s a painter of classical, historical, and literary subjects. In the 1850s the family returned to England. Before entering the Royal Academy schools in 1870, Waterhouse assisted his father in his studio. He do represents of art, for exemply “Miranda, the tempest”who is a reproduction of a piece of Shakespeare in 1916. In 1883, He marries Esther Kenworthy and hi dies in 1917.

This painting is entitled “Miranda the tempest”, it was painted by John William Waterhouse in 1916. This painting represent a piece of Shakespeare where the duke of Milan, before have been deposed and exited by his brother, find itself with his girl Miranda on desert island. The scene was open on the sinking.

In the foreground we can see a woman who is standing up against a big rock, she looks attentively the sinking, she does not look to be chocked, to have fear, she is just concentred on the sinking. The dress of Miranda is blue with a little of red. There is to little rock, stones on the ground. We can see there is wind because hair of Mirand fly. In the middle, we can see the violents vagues who thrown on the ground and on the stones. There is piece of wood, we can think is a piece of the mat of the boat. In the background, on the right there is big rock, the giant vagues thrown itself on the rocks. On the right, We can see the boat who is sinking, vagues swallowed the boat, the ship sinks. There is thunderstorm, all this elements showed that the tempest is so violent and dangerous. The colour of the painting is colour dark for represented the atmosphere who is sad and terrible. John William Waterhouse had represented the scene as a scene tragic, sad, violent and terrible.
