INTRODUCTION

We will present the notion “myths and heroes”.

To begin with, let’s try to give a definition of the word “hero”. In my opinion, a hero is firstly someone who is the principal character in a novel, film, play etc, as well as being who is endowed with extraordinary strength, courage and fortitude.

But a hero can also be a person who has braved death, risked or sacrificed his life for others. Or a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities, has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. We will study cowboys.

My problematic is: Are the cowboys from before are the same as today?

In the first part, we will talk about the cowboys before, at the 19th. In the second part, we will study today's cowboys and finally we will conclude on this subject by giving our personal opinion.

I.COWBOYS OF THE 19TH

In the first part, we will talk about the cowboys before, at the 19th. We studied two pictures that represents cowboys in the past versus cowboy now. The first picture describes a scene of the wild west, it was the time of the conquest: the westward expansion. Cowboys conquered lands that belonged to the Indians by killing them. The west was a dangerous place to live where the sheriff embodied the law.

As the cowboys moved from the Eastern coast to the western coast, the cowboys are the real builders of the USA with their weapons: guns and rifles.

Before the cowboys owned a weapon, they lived in a dangerous and unsafe world.

II.COWBOYS NOW

In the second part, we will study today's cowboys. We will study the second picture of the document. This one represents a ranch scene with two young people maybe some interns or the rancher’s children are seizing a calf while he is ironing it. Two people sitting on the fence of the paddock are watching them. The photograph shows how a united family works together. It also represents the transmission of traditions and ranch knowledge.

Now the cowboys are farmers and ranchers. They tend cattle, they work on horseback, they don’t move anymore, in fact, they have settled in one place.

Now cowboys live more peacefully.

CONCLUSION

To conclude, cowboys nowadays have nothing to do with the 19th century cowboys anymore.

They used to fight in lawless lands and be heartless to kill Indians in order to conquer new territories. Whereas now they spend their time working in ranches, fields and meadows.
