Nancy Wake

Nancy Wake was born on August 30, 1912, in Wellington, New Zealand and died on August 7, 2011, in London at the age of 98. At the age of 2 she moved to Australia and obtained Australian citizenship. After graduating from Queen's College for Journalism in London, she became a press correspondent in Paris. In 1935 she landed an interview with Adolf Hitler, and returning to France she witnessed anti-Semitic scenes that were at the origin of her engagement. In 1939 she married Henri Fiocca, a rich shipowner.

At the beginning of the Second World War, she enlisted as an ambulance driver. She then joined the Pat O' Leary resistance network as a broker. At that time she was much sought after by the Gestapo and was nicknamed the white mouse because she always managed to escape, his head is put at a price of 5 million francs. Her technique to escape the German guards was to play on her charms, she drank with them, seduced them and managed to escape. Once she was arrested by the Germans, she was tortured but as she didn't say anything, so she was released. She also helped British soldiers return to England through Spain. In 1943 she became secret agent of the Special Operation Executive she was then trained in espionage and sabotage, and she was parachuted into France in the spring of 1944. Wake is entrusted with the mission of being the broker of John Hind Farmer's "Hubert" freelance network, in Auvergne, to help the Resistance prepare the armed uprising that must coincide with the Normandy landings. It sets up and organizes the delivery of weapons and equipment necessary to the resistance fighters who are there. One of the most heroic moments of her career was when she cycled more than 200 km to pick up another radio operator because her group had lost the first one in a German raid. At the end of the Second World War, she became the most decorated woman, becoming a figure of the French Revolution.

I chose to talk about Nancy Wake because she was a very versatile woman throughout her life, who never gave up or renounced her ideals. She remains one of the women who contributed the most to the revolution. She excelled in many fields such as espionage or combat. She was also of great beauty, and she knew it because she used this beauty to escape the German soldiers. She knew how to use everyone to achieve her ends. Her colleague in the resistance, Henri Tardivat even said of her "She is the most feminine woman I know, until the fighting begins". That's why I chose Nancy Wake.
