Le droit de vote en France c’est tout une histoire. Aujourd’hui par exemple, tous les Français majeurs ont le droit de voter. Le chemin fut long pour en arriver là. A l’époque en 1791 il fallait payer pour voter et être âgé de plus de 25 ans. Les pauvres étaient donc indirectement privé du droit de vote en France.

En 1848, le suffrage universel masculin est adopté par la République. Presque 100 ans plus tard, en 1944, les femmes ont le droit de vote. La France fut au passage l’un des derniers pays d’Europe à accorder le droit de vote aux femmes. Il a fallu attendre le programme du Conseil national de la résistance et la Libération pour qu’un peu plus de la moitié de la population majeure de ce pays puisse enfin voter ! Sous la troisième République, la gauche et la droite s’étaient mis d'accord contre ce droit. Le droit de voter pour les femmes est donc un grand progrès pour la société.

Avant 1945, les militaires n’avaient pas le droit de voter car ils ne devaient pas prendre parti. D’ailleurs à l’époque l’Armée était surnommée « La Grande muette ».

En 1946, on autorise les français d’outre mer, donc les indigènes des colonies, à voter.

Ce n’est seulement qu’en 1962 que le peuple français peut voter directement pour son Président de la République au suffrage universel direct. Le Général De Gaulle fut le premier en 1965.

En 1974, Valéry Giscard d’Estaing abaisse l’age minimum du droit de vote en France à 18 ans.

Mitterrand avait proposé en 1981 dans son programme le droit de vote (locales) aux étrangers. Il n’a cependant jamais appliqué cette proposition jugeant que le peuple français n’était pas encore prêt. Est-il prêt aujourd’hui ?

En 1994, un détenu peut voter en France si il n’a pas été privé de ses droits civiques lors de sa condamnation. En 1998, pour limiter les exclusions les SDF peuvent voter. Enfin en 2005, les handicapés sous tutelles ont le droit de voter.

Le droit vote s’ expand de manière naturelle, et ce n’est qu’une question de temps pour l’attribuer aux étrangers vivants sur le territoire français.

Il faut cependant prendre conscience que le vote est un droit en France, et non un devoir. Par exemple en Australie il est obligatoire de voter depuis 1924 sous peine d’une amende de… 50 dollars !

Il y a eu énormément de changement sur le droit de vote en france, il y a eu beaucoup de progrès.

It should however be aware that voting is a right in France , and not a duty. For example, in Australia it is compulsory to vote since 1924 under penalty of a fine of 50 dollars ... !
