Introduction :

I am going to talk about Louis Armstrong. He was a musician in the jazz industry around the 1900s. In a first part i will present you the historical background, then in a second part I will talk about his private life and finally his professional life.

First : The Historical Background

Louis Armstrong was born in a time where there was a lot of segregation, around the beginning of his career the first miss America was elected one year earlier her name was Margaret Gorman and two years later it was Mary Campbell who was elected twice, also in 1927 the Oscar was created. During this period there had many presidents, first there was T. Woodrow Wilson (1913 – 1921), who gave women the right to vote, then Warren G. Harding (1921 – 1923) who died three years after his election and finally J. Calvin Coolidge (1923 – 1929) who was heavily criticized for an event that took place in 1927 that caused 246 deaths and 400 millions dollars of collateral dommage. This period also signs the birth of  Jazz in places where the Afro-american population was very present like Harlem, Chicago or New Orleans.

Second part : Private life

Louis Armstrong was born in a poor black family in New Orleans, his father abandonned him so he was raised by his mother and his grand mother (who was born a slave), but because of the fact that he grew up in a difficult neighborhood he multiple times ended up because of his bad behavior and a few acts of deliquancy  in a home for abandonned children.

He married a woman named « Lucille » and died in 1971 due to a heart attack at the age of 69 years old, he was buried at the « Flushing Cemetary » in New York.

Third part : Professional life

In his professional life everything went fast for him he changed the world’s perception with his music but « his golden age » was around the 60’s when after 40 years of carreer, he ended up 1st in the charts along with the Beatles with his song « Hello, Dolly »[pic 2]

Conclusion

I think it’s interesting to talk about him because he is one these rare people who in a way is responsible for the evolution of the music today, he changed the world’s perception with his music and i think that if everything evolved today it’s because of him and his influence in the music industry.
