What’s New
New initiatives and products: following our successful operations in Brazil, International Resources has extended its
investments in sustainable development to French Guiana.
The local headquarters has just opened near the port of Cayenne. Thanks to the Hmong, Amerindian and African farmers
and craftsmen scattered throughout the country, we are now offering new original
homemade organic foods such as jam
with local fruits, chocolate, spices and
condiments, as well as a range of
beautiful handicraft items including
hamacs, basketwork, jewellery made
with seeds and natural fibres, small
furniture and decorative objects all
made from environmentally‑ friendly
materials.
Besides ensuring fair wages and
working conditions for the producers
in the various communities, this new
initiative of International Resources
includes also the creation of jobs
in the Cayenne area. The office
and distribution centre have been
built by a Guyanese construction
company using local labour, with
environmentally‑friendly materials and
solar energy and all our vehicles run
on natural gas.
All the employees have been recruited locally including the branch manager, 8 office
workers and 10 employees in the DC* for packaging and logistics.
Since the opening last week, we have received over a thousand orders via the internet from round the world, which is very
encouraging. Despite the crisis, it is clear that consumers continue to support sustainable development. We predict a bright
future and plan to invest some of the profits in the area in HIV education and testing, and in research for emerging tropical
diseases such as malaria and Dengue fever. Our next project is to extend our activities to neighbouring Surinam and
Guyana further north. I.R. now has operations in 25 countries supporting small producers on all continents of the world.
