Introduction

Big Ben because it's famous it is the symbolic monument of the city of London, in fact you cannot miss it! Placed just a step from the Thames and from Westminster Abbey, Big Ben is the nickname of the bell of 14 tons situated in the clock tower of the british parliament. You can thus see it since the street, and make unforgettable shots. At night, just magnificent since the wheel London Eye!!!

Big Ben is the nickname of a bell that rings in the clock tower at the northern end of the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, London, England. Officially, the tower itself is called Elizabeth Tower. It was previously called Clock Tower, but was renamed in September 2012 as a tribute to the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. However, most people, including those that live in London, call the tower "Big Ben", because it is very large. It weighs 13 tons.

The creator

It was built by Sir Adam Jonas from Norfolk, England in 1858 by his team of architects and builders.

Visit

The clock tower is not technically open to the public; but, residents of United Kingdom are able to arrange tours through their local Member of Parliament.

The bell

The original Big Ben bell weighed 16 tons. However, when they were trying to install it, it fell and broke. The new bell was made 3 tons lighter. This bell also has a large crack in it. However, it was simply turned and continues to work. Big Ben is the second bell in the tower. The first was damaged in 1856, due to a miscalculation. Big Ben is the biggest four-faced, chiming clock in the world.

Conclusion

I have chasen Big Ben because today, it's still an iconic symbol of London, England and the United Kingdom. It appears in films and on postcards.
