INTRODUCTION

"BAYAM-SELLAMS" as locally known constitute the assembly of all those who buy food products or products in general from producers to resell these products in our local markets so as to earn revenue. This buying and selling can be in bulk or in small quantities depending on the "BAYAM-SELLAM's purchasing power. Food products on the other hand are all those cultivable crops whose produce are destined for human nourishment. Mokolo market is one of the biggest market of the political capital of Cameroon where we can find many articles as well as many food products with over 5000 "BAYAM-SELLAMS" selling diverse food products such as baby food, beverages, cereals, vegetables, soft drinks, canned foods condiments, nuts, fruits just to name a few. Our work will be based on the characteristics of the selling of food products in Mokolo market, channels of distribution, problems faced and finally on the solutions to problems faced by "BAYAM-SELLAMS" in Mokolo market.

I. Food products in mokolo market

The food products found in Mokolo market are of diverse nature leading to different modes of conservation, distribution and differences in their prices. Transport and conservation play a very determining role in the final price of these food products.

A. Types of food products commercialised in Mokolo market.

The type of food products commercialised in Mokolo market include: Baby food, Baked goods, Beverages, Cereals, Soft drinks, Canned foods, Chips, Crisps, Corn snacks, Condiments, Fruits, Vegetables, Nuts just to name a few. These food products can be sub divided into perishable and non-perishable food products.

B. The Origin/Provenance of food products in Mokolo market.

The food products present in Mokolo market come from many sources or origins which include: nearby farms and villages such as Okola, Obala, Leboudi and Nkolbisson. These food products also come from other towns and localities like the Littoral, South, South West, West and North West regions.

II. Modes of transport and channels of distribution of food products in mokolo market

There are diverse modes of transport of food products in and out of mokolo market from cultivable farms and from various villages into the Mokolo market. We have road transport which is the most important means of transport of these products, there is also via rail transport thanks to the presence of the TRANS CAMEROON Rail way line.
