Who is Daniel Radcliffe?

Daniel Jacob Radcliffe (born 23 July 1989) is an English actor best known for his role as Harry Potter in the film series of the same name. He made his acting debut at 10 years of age in BBC One's 1999 television film David Copperfield, followed by his cinematic debut in 2001's The Tailor of Panama. At age 11, he was cast as Harry Potter in the first Harry Potter film, and starred in the series for 10 years until the release of the eighth and final film in 2011.

Radcliffe first expressed a desire to act at the age of five and in December 1999, aged 10, he made his acting debut in BBC One's televised two-part adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel David Copperfield, portraying the title character as a young boy.

His Studies

As his acting career began to consume his schedule, Radcliffe continued his education through on-set tutors. He admitted he was not very good at school, considering it useless and finding the work "really difficult”. He decided to take a break from education and did not go to college or university.

Part of his reasoning was that he already knew he wanted to act and write, and that it would be difficult to have a normal college experience.

Daniel Radcliffe in Harry Potter

Daniel Radcliffe for the first time portrays Harry Potter in 2001, at the age of eleven in the film adaptation of J. K. Rowling's first novel, Harry Potter at the School of Wizards, directed by Chris Columbus. David Heyman, the producer of the films, is the first to meet Daniel Radcliffe by chance while he goes to the same play, accompanied by his father. He will later say that he was not interested in the play at all, regularly watching the boy sitting behind him. "I was captivated by his age." David Heyman then manages to convince Daniel Radcliffe's father to involve him in the current auditions, in the presence of Chris Columbus. The director, who had already noticed the boy following his role in David Copperfield, will remember him for the "intelligence" and "wisdom" he gives for his age. The young actor meets Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger), whom he will find in the following films.

His private life

Daniel Radcliffe suffers from a slight dyspraxia, which is a peculiarity of the brain preventing the good coordination of gestures. However, as he himself stated, this does not prevent him from practicing his profession because his dyspraxia is of a rather low degree. He is also suffering from a rare disease: cluster headache, affecting only 0.2% of the population.

During the promotion of Harry Potter's latest feature, Daniel Radcliffe admitted to BBC Radio that he had alcohol problems during the filming of the Half-Blood Prince. In 2013, he announced that he had not used alcohol for more than two years; he says he is cured today.

Since 2013, he is dating with the American actress Erin Darke, met on the set of Kill Your Darlings in October 2012.

A man with a good heart

Daniel Radcliffe supports several charities, he also made a donation qualified "important" to the Trevor Project, an American organization that works against the suicide of young homosexuals in the United States.

"It's very sad to know that in 2009 suicide is one of the top three causes of death among young people, and it is tragic to learn that young homosexuals are up to four times as likely to commit suicide as heterosexual youth ". "I grew up around homosexuals all my life, deep down, maybe that's why I'm biased and some people think I'm homosexual when I meet them ... which I think is great." he said during his donation to the Trevor project.
