India , officially the Republic of India is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world.

Are all citizens on an equal footing in this modern-day India ?

Firstly, we’re going to see if there are inequalities among citizens. Then we’re going to discuss the inequalities among men and women. Finally, we’re going to see the evolution of Indian society.

-Caste systems (Dalits)

The caste system in India developed more than 3000years ago when the hindu priests divided the society into four hereditary classes, which still survive today. A girl isn't as financially attractive as a boy because their parents have to pay for her wedding. Another reason is boy can look after family business and name when the parents are old. Even though finding out the sex of a baby before birth is illegal, sex-selective abortions are practised. Women are still often disavantaged compared to men and they don't have an important role in society.
