Saint Martin

1)Description of the island 

The part we are gonna talking about today is the French part of Saint Martin situated in the north part of the Saint Martin island, in the West Indies. The inhabitant are called the Saint Martinois and the official language is the French nevertheless of the nearby British island. The south part of the island also called Saint Martin (Sint Maarten in Dutch) is the part of the island who is speaking Dutch. The French is the official language, but the English is the most speaking language of the island (96%). On this part of the island we can visit the orient bay (Premiere image du diapo) and the peak of paradise (deuxieme image)

2)Cultural/ Tradition

In February a carnival is organized at Marigot (troisieme image du diapo), this is the most spectacular and famous celebration of the island. This celebration takes place in the street, this is the parade of Marigot where the locals are disguised. There is a lot of beautiful local and traditional music, for example Youth Waves or MNK who are two rappers living in Saint Martin.

3)Cultural food

There is a lot of traditional food from the West Indies, in Saint Martin for example there is « Le punch planteur » (image 6 diapo) who is a cocktail of fruit with alcohol, the « Guavaberry » is a traditional liquor from Saint Martin, since a hundred years this liquor is make of old rhum, cane sugar and wild guavaberry.

5)Climate

In Saint Martin there is always a good weather, it’s never raining, when its raining this is like for a few days but not a long time. The minimum temperature in one year is 24 degres and the max is 38. This is always a beautiful sun and sky in Saint Martin.
