→ Introduction

Hello everyone,

Today, I’m going to talk about a very world-famous company: AMAZON.

→ The Plan of the presentation

First of all, we will see the history of Amazon & its evolution. Then its values, its products & the evolution of its logo and finally its distribution centres in the world.

→ The history of AMAZON, its creator and its evolution

Created by Jeff Bezos in 1994, Amazon is an American e-commerce company based in Seattle.

Born in 1964, Jeff Bezos is an outstanding mathematician who tinkered with a new object every day and already dreamed of building hotels in orbit around the Earth.

In his garage in Seattle, he started the Cadabra project in 1994. It’s not a magic show, but the name of a computer program. This term being too close to «cadaver», the start-up will finally be called Amazon and will transform the algorithms into gold.

Keen on reading, he wants to create «the largest bookstore on Earth». On July 16, 1995, the site Amazon.com opens. The first book is sold followed by a long series.

It is in this modest two-room space furnished with wooden tables that Jeff Bezos installs the offices of his start-up.

Millions of references of books, but also, radios, drills and tennis rackets are sold on the site at its beginning.

Just three years after its launch, the online bookstore is becoming increasingly diversified.

Nothing stops Amazon, which landed in France in the year 2000 and set the book sector on fire: booksellers and publishers were not happy, but the site makes its hole and today destabilizes all businesses, even food.

Jeff BEZOS has therefore made an online bookstore the largest grocery store on the Net.

The number one key to its success is the quasi-military management of orders and deliveries from giant warehouses.

Amazon’s net income reached $2.4 billion in 2016. Never short of projects (e-reader, smartphone, delivery by drone, etc.), it also intends to put space within reach of as many people as possible.

→ The values of the firm (ethics)

Amazon’s success is based on a few key values. In 2009, Jeff Bezos explained in a video the great things he learned and the 4 great values of Amazon:

→ be obsessed with his clients

→ always invent for your customers

→ think long term

→ always consider oneself as the first day

→ The product (the logo)

◊ The products

Amazon offers products of several varieties such as:

High-Tech & Computer Accessories, Video Games, Toys, but also Electronic Products for Home Needs, Multimedia Products and many other accessories

◊ The logo

The Amazon logo has undergone many changes since its inception in 1994.

In 2000, the creation of this new logo is the one we all know today. The Amazon logo has a double meaning.

First, the corner smile-shaped arrow makes the logo sympathetic, and symbolizes customer satisfaction.

But this arrow also goes from A to Z, to symbolize the scope of the choice offered by the Amazon site.

→ The distribution centres around the world

Amazon has more than 175 distribution centres around the world, most of which are located in North America and Europe.

Amazon creates job opportunities throughout the year. But at the end of the year holiday season the company is particularly increasing its efforts in terms of investment, training and hiring, to meet the growing demand of many customers who rely on Amazon at this time of year
