↘ Birth 1869, on the west coast of India.

↘ Death in 1948, in Dehli.

↘ He was called the Bapu in India (« father »).

↘ Her wife: Kasturbai, who remained until 1942

Gandhi is recognized as the Father of the Nation in India, where his birthday is a national holiday.

↘ This date was also declared “International Day of Non-Violence” by the United Nations General Assembly.

Fun facts about Gandhi:  

↘ He was a vegetarian.

↘ He would sometimes travel with his goat to ensure that the milk was fresh and that he was not given buffalo or cow’s milk.

↘ Experts wondered how he resisted the radical hunger strike.

↘ Gandhi and his wife had their first child when he was 15.

Did what make him so special?

He raised with Hindu values, so he learns to be tolerant and understand other religions.  He was therefor openminded, for the time. He didn’t fight only for independence, but also for civil rights for women, the fair treatment of all people regardless of religion and for the abolition of social
