EE Anglais « Why was D Trump elected ? »

        Danald trump is the 45th president of the United States. He was elected in 2016 and he has succeded to Obama. Trump had become known not just for building skyscrapers and golf courses, but also as a reality televivision star throught « the apprentice ». In this way he gave himself the image of a buisnessman and that’s a key element of Trump’s appeal to voters.

        On the other hand, Trump’s celebrity status was also something he hadto overcome to show that he could be a serious candidate able to lead the country.

As we know it, Donald Trump isn't appreciated by the whole american population ! we can then ask ourselves how he won the presidential elections ?

First of all we do need to call to mind the way elections are conducted, because it’s the first reason why he became president.

So there are two political parties : Republicans and the democrats, to choose their candidates they organize primary where each candidate will try to convince voters. But the main difference with France election is that it is not necessarily the candidate who has the most votes that will win ! this political système is called the electoral college. And that’s why Trump won the election (Hillary Clinton won three million more votes than him but only 232 electors).

But now, we may wander how did donald trump attract such broad support within the republican party ?  

We can answer this question by using theory called  authoriarianism. « Autoritarianism is a term political scientists use for a worldview that values order and authority, and distrusts outsiders and social change. »

Authoritarianism people were historically attracted by both parties but now almost only republicans appeal theme. Republicans advocates traditional and national issue Authoritarianism people are more extreme thane other citizen about threats from people and more particularly foreign people sot hey aur more likely to support strong security measures. And this is were Trump appear. He is always advocating supports and protections to white traditional American family against minority groups and foreign threats. For instance his measures with borders and guns.

It doesn’t mater if what he said has sence or seems realistic because he appears strong enought to ensure protection.
