Hi everyone, I'm Catherine Bosquet, film critic for Los Angeles Time

today have going to talk about the movie "The Shinning "

First of all this film was directed by Stanley Kubrick. He's a filmmaker, photographer, screenwriter, and American producer. He was born on July 26, 1928 in New York.

He made many films like

- "Eyes Wide Shut "

- "Full Metal jackets " and many more.

It is inspired by the novel of the writer Stephen King to make his film. This film is part of the horror register.

This is a story of Jack Torrance, a keeper of a hotel closed in the winter, his wife and son Danny are about to live long months of loneliness. Danny, who has a psychic gift,

the "shining ", is frightened at the idea of living in this place which was marked by terrible past events ...

To go back to the film, Shining " Today still has a very nice fame, it is considered to be one of the best scary horror films. It must be said that Stanley Kubrick is applied in the staging, that the suspense is present throughout the film, the music plays a big role in the atmosphere of the film. He's terrifying, he has a psychopathic head even at the beginning of the movie. His performance is masterful.

But he left me perplexed. I expected much better from such a director. It's a big disappointment: there's no real plot, the movie is really too slow , and the book is much better than Kubrick's adaptation. I do not recommend it to those who have read the book, they will be disappointed.

This film disappointed me because as it is a cult film I expected a masterpiece. But most of the film is very long, slow and boring for my part. Even the end that is more thrilling than the beginning. The play of the actors for what is Nicholson is excellent. Being considered a horror film I expected to have some startled or fright but absolutely not ... that's why I will put the note of 6.5/10

I would advise this film for people who have not read the book, because between Stephen King's novel and Stanley's film there are many differences. Many people having read the book were disappointed in watching the movie, the book was thrilling unlike the movie.
