The Last Journey

In the heart of this immeasurable desert was our camel caravan. Proudly marching across the waterless dunes. Our destination was an abandonned temple. We knew many dangers were awaiting us. We were like walking on thin ice.

After a week in this exhausting death – trap, our bodies were starting to get along with the unbearable heat. Leading our united small group of camels, was me. Piercing any sign of danger in the flying sand. At midday, the sun was at its zenith, he was watching the desert as a big eye. He wanted our deaths more than anything else, crushing us under his frustrating heat. Our only defense against him was our water bottles, acting as a shield. As the sun slowly lowered, the stars appeared. To our eyes, they were a million diamonds sparkling in the sky. My men quickly realized they were only hiding an even more hostile world. Discretly killing us from the inside, as hostile as the sun, was the night. Attending -40 degrees celsius, the sudden temperature contrast destroyed us. Our response to that was our camp fire. Heating us, that fire was the only sign of light in this cold and dark world.

The sound came that another camel caravan was also seeking out treasure. They were blood – thirsty barbarians, willing to kill us all. There army was vaste and composed of horses and not camels. They knew perfectly the area and would arrive there before us. We then doubled the vigilance during the night and doubled the speed. Forging ahead night and day, leading to our exhaustement.

It is now to weeks since the beginning of this long journey and already half of my men died from terrible deseases. Our team was reduced to a dozen. The chances of arriving alive were hopeless but my team believed in me and I believed we could attend our objective. Another long week passed. The temple was finally in sight of our binoculars, a little black spot distinguished in the swirling sand. Finally arriving a tour long seeked temple, we were filled with happiness. Hidden behind ruines, were our ennemies, ready to terminate us, leaving only death and fear in our caravan. Sudddenly, an avalanche of burning arrows descended on us. One by one, my men were plunging to the ground, dying in agony. The sand, covered by blood and clutered with corpses was awaiting me. I hid behind an enormous statue, hoping my life wouldn’t end now. The fear and the tension were intense. I tried escaping on my camel but I couldn’t. These barbarians had savageally massacred our camels. We were unable to escsape. Waiting to get shot. I still haddened appeared our fearless ennemie. The arrows were only the begginning. An army of sanguinary beasts were charging on us. Leaving us no chances. Men were fighting, screaming, dying. This chaotic view of the world was my last view of the world. This journey was my last journey. I suddenly felt a breve instant of burning pain. Scarlet red blood was slowly making its way through my back. Emptying me of life. My time on this world was slowly ending. My soul was drifting away, leading me to an unknown world, a world thithout fear, without death. I failed my quest. A teardrop of anger flowed across my face. This was my goodbye to this cruel world.
