FICHE ANGLAIS POUR ORAL NOTION : PROGRESS

I- INTRODUCTION :

-The notion I am going to deal with is the Idea of Progress. Let me start by giving a definition of this notion. The progress is a type of evolution in the good or bad way. This evolution can be positive or negative and it can make us live better or not and this evolution can be in few differents sectors.

- I would like to illustrate this notion through the theme of the swinging sixties which is in relation to the notion.

- We may wonder how the society of United Kingdom changes in the 60's ?

- My presentation is divided into 3 parts : fisrt of all I will concentrate on the pirates radio, then I will show how the rock'n roll reach the top in the 60's, before finally focusing on the fallen heroes of the 60's.

II- ANALYSIS :

A- PIRATES RADIO :

- First, I want to talk about a document which a cover of time magazine. It represents the opposition between traditional London : monuments like Big Ben, guards with bear skin hats, the Prime Minister wearing a suit, we can say that he embodies the conformity. However, this traditional aspect is relegatedto the background because what matters here is novelty. Young people this new generation : they wear colorful clothes, they are always on the move, the oversized glassed and loose pants were fashionable. They even take drugs because on man boks dazed and one girl has spiralling eyes. All of these elements stand for liberation and freedom. In orthers, we can say that the new generation embodies the progress because of the changing views of english. They brought the novelty to UK.

The government refuse change tarditions, so they want to shut down DJs/ youngs are rebellious and they want change, they stand against the government by supporting pirates radio who broadcast illegaly.

These documents show the progress of thinking because young people try to change traditionsand they create new fashion stylen started to party a lot. And also a progress in music with DJs who broadcast a new type of music : the roc'n roll.

B- ROCK'N ROLL :

- We can talk about "My generation" from the Who which was created in . This song deals with the new generation who evolvedbecause of their new language and it is also denounce the new violence. I think this song is very cutting-edge because it is about problems we still have today. The song tell us that because of their new language they meet a new type of violence, from the state the society and their pilgrims, that they don't diserve. We can say that the new language and the new violence are a type of progress because they represent an evolution not a positive one but it is an evolution as well.

-In class we studied a song untitled
