Slums as tourist Destinations : inside a Rio Favela

This documents is a new report witch was broadcast on Bloomberg. The title is Slums as Tourist Destinations inside a Rio Favela.

There are one journalist named Trish Regan who present the report.

The document deals with the tourism inside Rocinah, Brazil's largest favela.

It's to get a behind the scenes look at the business of slum tours.

Indeed, the city of Rocinah has an extraordinary view, a breathtaking view of Rocinha, the largest favela in the city. It attracts rich tourists. But they're roaming such a dangerous place.

The city is overwhelmed with drug traffickers, violence and poor people who live in misery. Rich tourists take them for zoo animals. They take them as people whose species is different from theirs. They want to know how they live in difficulty, in misery. The tourists only pay 27 dollars . And it is the private agencies that offers such stays.

In order for the visit to take place properly, there are cable cars that make it easier to see the city from above. There are one hundred and sixty five cable cars that are moving start and finish. The length of the cable car is six minutes and you can find coffee, tea, etc in order to have a good time inside. The city is covered with police officers who will intervene at any time.

In conclusion, we are in a system that is not ethicale.

Ethics is a term that involves the concept of right and wrong conduct, of moral principles. To be an ethical consumer would mean that you act in the interest of the groupe.  But here tourists do not have moral principles. Rocinha is therefore a city that knows a certain economy since the appearance of tourist but there are many poor people living in poverty. It's a form of voyeurism.

And  i don't like this behaviour, the people in Rocinah are same like you and me but they are poor.
